Summary: Write a fic in five minutes (or only slightly more!) starting with the words "It was as if".

It was as if he was invisible. Yes, Hawkeye decided, it was as if he—and more importantly, the way he felt—was invisible.

It wasn’t that Radar didn’t know he was there: they spoke often enough, and the younger man was always friendly. It wasn’t that he hadn’t tried approaching him: surely the occasional arm round the shoulders, the grabbed kiss under some pretence, would be enough to give a clue to anyone who was looking for that sort of thing. It was, simply, that because Radar was so innocent, he was completely blind to the fact that Hawkeye was falling in love with him.

Sometimes, he wanted to take Radar in his arms and rock him to sleep, wanted to look after him as if he was a child; but more often, he wanted to make him happy, corrupt just enough of that naiveté to give him the grin Hawkeye remembered wearing for days when he’d first had sex.

It seemed unlikely that it would ever happen, though; so Hawkeye chased the nurses and helped Radar look after his animals, always hoping that one day there could be something more between. Hoping that one day, the scales would fall from Radar’s eyes and Hawkeye would no longer be invisible to the man he loved.
